Black 47 and Finbar Furey Release “Mychal”
A Tribute to Fallen NYFD Chaplain Father Mychal Judge
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | New York, NY (February 18, 2022)
Father Mychal Judge is a saint to the people of New York City. A Franciscan friar and Catholic priest, he served as chaplain of the New York City Fire Department. On September 11, 2001 Fr. Mychal entered the North Tower of the World Trade Center alongside the other firefighters and rescue personnel to provide help. As the South Tower collapsed, debris flew through the North Tower lobby killing many including Fr. Mychal. Though many had perished before him, he was given the solemn honor of being designated Victim 0001 – the first recorded casualty of 9/11.
In tribute to his legacy and in celebration of the songs of Black 47, Valley Entertainment releases "Mychal" with Irish folk legend Finbar Furey from the upcoming album After Hours, Volume 2 – executive produced by Peter Walsh of The Gobshites and Larry Kirwan of Black 47.
Furey described, "When Larry asked me if I would sing this song, I told him I would be honored. Mychal was a wonderful human being who did so much for the people of New York and never left their side in their darkest hour. A beautiful song for a beautiful man."
Remembered by the songwriter Larry Kirwan, "I often thought of Mychal as a mirror, he was so empathetic he seemed to reflect your own hopes and fears. I never knew anyone who helped so many people; he was always concerned, forever providing a shoulder.”
