Don Walser - Winner of 2000 National Heritage Award
Austin institution and country-roadhouse yodeler Don Walser, (dubbed the 'missing link between Buddy Holly and the Butthole Surfers' by the San Francisco Bay Guardian), is releasing his 7th album, I'll Hold You In My Heart, through Valley Entertainment.
His music is quintessential Texas country with loads of honky-tonk, plenty of western swing, and Walser's trademark cowboy yodeling. His first album, Rolling Stone From Texas, was released in 1994, and sold roughly 24,000 units. His five other albums, Here's To Country Music (1990), Archive Series Vol. 1 & 2 (1995), Texas Top Hand (1996), and Down at The Sky-Vue Drive-In (1998), continue to be consistent sellers.
In addition to widespread critical acclaim, Don Walser enjoys a loyal, national fanbase, which remains the strongest in his home state of Texas. Among other accolades, The Austin Music Awards recently named Walser Top Country Artist and inducted him into their Hall of Fame.
In September of 2000, Don was honored in Washington D.C. the distinction of being a Living National Treasure.
His group, The Pure Texas Band, consists of 'Skinny' Don Keeling on Bass, Howard Kalish on Fiddle, Phillip Farjardo on Drums, Scott Walls on Steel Guitar and Floyd Domino on Piano.
