Tales Of The Sun People is the work of a virtuoso synthesist/performer. TIM CLARK creates a richly ambiguous, complex, and provocative new music from unusual instrumental timbres and a brilliantly original rhythmic sense. Now out of print, this electronic spacemusic classic is available in limited quantity while supplies last. The Sun People are a nomad band of gypsies on a distant planet. It's kind of a frontier western scene but without the violence - more like an outback desert paradise. They travel the canyon lands, have nightly dances around the fires, climb the ridgetops, and contemplate the visions in the sky. Every year they stage a great celebration for the Last Full Moon.
TIM CLARK's vision of the music of this imaginary alien culture strikes off toward a new genre (Extraterrestrial Ethnic?) with an up-to-the-nanosecond electronic production. All tracks were played to a MIDI recorder (no mechanistic "sequencing" or quantized rhythms) then mixed direct to the digital master by Clark, mix producer STEPHEN HILL, and engineer BOB HODAS, whose credits include many projects for Windham Hill and Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart.
Musically, Tales... is the work of a virtuoso synthesist/performer with an ear for unusual instrumental timbres and a brilliantly original rhythmic sense that imprints itself on every piece. Via sampling, an amazing array of acoustic instruments from around the world appear in new shadings, styles, and combinations. Stretching the familiar just out of its normal context, Clark creates a richly ambiguous, complex, and provocative new music.
