Updating the refrains of well-known peace songs from the U.S. charts, American and Arab artists sing multilingual duets. The project, about the eternal struggle for freedom, has given birth to Songs from a Stolen Spring. Featuring Blind Boys of Alabama, Glenn Tilbrook of Squeeze, Ray Benson of Asleep at the Wheel, Soozie Tyrell (E Street Band) and more.
A Lebanese woman writes about love. The songs are about love, though not the sweet romantic kind. Rather this is about all-consuming, passionate love, and lost and failed love. This is love seen from a woman’s point of view in a region of the world where men rule, where a woman's needs are silenced or suppressed.

Larry Kirwan on Black 47's "Last Call"
- February 3, 2014
"Celtic music often passes under the radar but what sub-genre can draw over 100,000 people per weekend as at the Milwaukee and Dublin OH Irish festivals? Being a member of Black 47 and hosting Celtic Crush on SiriusXM, I’m only too familiar with its popularity. Thus, I jumped at the chance to curate Larry Kirwan’s Celtic Invasion, a collection of Celtic Rock favorites. In truth the choices weren’t very difficult – every track had already proven popular on Celtic Crush. Thus I could hop from "Savage Earth Heart" by the ever-popular Waterboys to "Sullivan’s Lake" by unknown Garahan’s Ghost, from "Wacko King Hako" by Peatbog Faeries to "Weekend Irish" by Barleyjuice and know that the listener would not only be thrilled but also inspired to find out more. A year later, I’m still proud of this compilation, while some of the bands have rightfully headed into more mainstream glory. Next year I hope to put together another collection for the discerning ears at Valley.
In the meantime Black 47 is releasing its final CD, Last Call. We’re disbanding on Nov. 15, 2014 exactly 25 years after our first date. The songs range from street favorites like Salsa O’Keefe to political statements as in US of A 2014; from an uilleann pipes rave up Culchie Prince to a look into the head and life of Irish playwright/revolutionary Brendan Behan. It’s a celebration of the many musical influences of Black 47 – reggae, funk, rock, Irish Trad, all fused together with the spirit of legendary New York producer, Bert Berns. It’s available on all the usual digital platforms but can also be bought or downloaded from the band’s website at www.black47.com."
